It's in the Details: Bunting and Garland Decor

Bunting, flags, and garland are popular ways to decorate for your wedding or a party.  They don't take themselves too seriously and add some fun and whimsy to your day.  Try it at your dessert bar, in your DIY wedding photobooth, to reserve seating, in your wedding photos, or over your dance floor.  But why not add a little twist to your bunting and garland decor.  My favorite is the use of the vintage hankies to create bunting that reserves ceremony seating for family - so original!

Free Printable Alphabet Bunting

Yesterday's bunting post was more baby focused, but today's could be used for a wedding!  Spotted at Ruffled Blog and designed by Two Brunettes, this printable alphabet bunting would be a cheap, easy, and cute way to label a photo booth, dessert table, or other wedding element.  Or make one with the words "thank you" or "just married" to use in wedding photos!

It's in the Details: Pinwheels

Perfect for a summer wedding, pinwheels are equal parts whimsical and fun.  A great DIY idea (see a tutorial from Style Me Pretty here, one from Once Wed here, and one from Better Homes and Gardens here, you can make them for all of your guests as favors or place cards, or just for you and your wedding party.  Also fun decor for a birthday party or a baby shower...

Connect the Dots

I'm loving polka dot details incorporated into the design and styling of weddings and events!  They're so fun and a little bit retro...

You definitely want to stay away from being too literal - do NOT use dots in every element of your wedding.  Just pick a couple of details, like your stationery and ring pillow, or incorporate them in your decor, the groomsmen ties, and your shoes.  They are a fun way to lighten things up and add a bit of whimsy to your day.

Inspiration Board: Vintage Elegance with Pops of Color

While doing several drafts of an inspiration board for a client this week, I created the board below, and while it isn't the one the client was looking for, it is the one I am the most drawn to.  I love the color palette: the combination of muted gray, ivory, light yellow and light blue, mixed with pops of brighter yellow and aqua.  The lace and milk glass bring a vintage feel, but the color palette is more modern and whimsical.  I would love to see this inspiration board brought to life in an elegant ballroom wedding or a fun tented country club event...

Down the Rabbit Hole

One of my favorite stories as a child was Alice in Wonderland.  Food and drink that makes you grow big or small, a hookah-smoking caterpillar, a rabbit that is always late, not to mention a cheshire cat (what exactly IS a cheshire cat?), and celebrating un-birthdays...what's not to love!?  So needless to say, I am giddy to an embarrassing degree about the new Tim Burton film adaptation of Alice in Wonderland (out 3/5 in 3D...Hello!!!).  I'm sure it will be a tribute to the "curiouser and curiouser."


In anticipation, I thought an inspiration board would be fun.  I have to admit I started seeing a couple on other blogs after I had decided to make one, but that will not deter my Alice spirit!
