Hunting and Gathering

During my wedding planning process, I had specific vintage items that I hunted for:  mason jars, antique skeleton keys, milk glass...  And I loved the hunt.  It was so much fun.  But a lot of brides don't like to hunt.  Or they hunt but can't find what they are looking for.  So what's a girl to do?  Well if you can't find what you're looking for, you can rent it.  Or you can hire someone to find it for you - Like me, I would totally love to hunt for you!  I do custom searches for unique items for your wedding, event, or photo shoot.

There are other places you can turn to as well.  Found is a vintage furniture and prop resource where you can look at an inventory of items that are already, well, found.  And if they don't have what you are looking for, they will do a custom search as well.  Ribbons and Rust is another resource with an extensive inventory and willingness to hunt for a specific item for you.  Both are located in Southern California (as am I!).

So if you have a desire to find vintage china, crystal punch cups, skeleton keys, mason jars, an old door, mismatched chairs, or something else of the vintage variety, but don't have the desire to hunt for it yourself, hire someone to do it for you.

Baby Love {#1}

Because my life is more centered around babies than weddings these days, and because I see so many beautiful baby photos and cute baby ideas, I want to do a weekly baby love feature of things I love for baby.  But it is only fitting that my first post is my biggest baby inspiration, my baby love.

We're on Facebook

Oh Lovely Day is now on facebook!  Can some of you lovely readers come and 'like' me over there?  I'll be eternally grateful.  Please and thank you.  Happy weekend.

Vintage Bride {#1}

What once was old is new again.  Isn't that often the case in fashion?  The same is true for bridal style.  Whether it is a wedding gown, a veil, or a hairstyle, many brides are taking cues from vintage bridal style.  Because Oh Lovely Day loves all things vintage, we'll be featuring a vintage bride weekly in this Vintage Bride feature.  If you have a photo of your mom, grandmother, or someone else you know that you think had great vintage bridal style, I would love to share them!

Twists on the Traditional

Want to give programs to your wedding guests, use escort cards to tell them where to sit, and have them sign your guestbook?  Those elements of the wedding experience can be made more unique with these twists on the traditional ideas.

How about personalized newspapers as programs?

Or how about escort cards made from paper dolls.

Or remember this post I did a while back?

Anthropologie-Inspired DIY Pinata

Are you a fan of music or vintage paper?  If so, this anthropologie-inspired DIY pinata might be right up your alley.  It would be great DIY project for a wedding or photo shoot.  You can fill it with anything, but the idea is to fill it with "love notes."  They could be notes from famous couples throughout history or from your favorite films, from you and your husband to each other, or from your wedding guests to you, the couple.

You take a balloon (oversized ones work best), soak newspaper strips in water and glue, and cover the balloon.  Let the balloon dry, then cover in strips of vintage sheet music (you could also use vintage book pages, but be sure to use already damaged books!).  After that dries, pop the balloon and cut a hole where you will insert your love notes or other filling.  Then reattach the cut piece and cover with more sheet music.  Then hang with string, ribbon, or whatever you choose.
